What's New

Recent work on Dogglounge — new features, fixes and things worth knowing about. Newest first.

10 September 2026
  • Comments without an account Anyone can comment on an episode now, or pin a comment to a moment in the mix, without signing up. A first comment waits to be approved; after that they appear straight away.
  • Better podcast search Searching the archive now matches each word on its own, so "voodoo 14" finds VOODOO LOPEZ: 14. It used to look for the whole phrase in one piece and find nothing. Searching a DJ's name together with a title works too — "voodoo nemo" returns the one set rather than all 405.
  • Tip the DJ Episodes carry the DJ's own tip link under the player, where it can actually be seen — it used to sit below the whole tracklist. The money goes straight to the DJ; the station takes nothing and never sees it.
8 September 2026
  • Chat while you listen Episode pages carry the chat, so a set can be listened to and talked about without keeping a second tab open. It is the same room everywhere — someone playing a 2019 set is talking to whoever is around now, not to an empty room of their own.
  • Episodes keep playing as you browse Starting an episode and moving to another page no longer stops it. A bar along the bottom shows what is playing, how far in you are, and takes you back to the episode. Refreshing still stops it — no browser allows audio to restart without a click.
  • Plays and likes on episodes Each episode shows how many times it has been played here, and carries a heart anyone can press. Downloads are counted separately and come from podcast apps, which is a different thing entirely.
7 September 2026
  • Record label pages Sixty-two labels with a real catalogue on air now have a page of their own: the artists signed to them, their most played records here, and how the label has fared year by year. Linked from the artist pages and the charts. Only imprints with several artists and several tracks get one — a label with a single artist is that artist under another name.
6 September 2026
  • VIP Lounge A second chat room, for members, alongside the main one.
  • Pick your own name in chat Guests can choose a name instead of appearing as a number, and are marked as guests so members are still told apart.
  • GIFs in chat A GIF picker in the chat, searching Giphy.
  • Adding the app to an iPhone The Add to Home Screen instructions are a walkthrough now, drawing the icons at the size they appear on the phone, rather than a line of text telling you to tap Share. Apple gives no way to do this in one tap, so the best available is a clear explanation.
31 August 2026
  • Buy links on episode tracklists Every track in an episode's tracklist now carries a Discogs, Beatport and Traxsource link, so a record you hear in a set can be tracked down and bought. Added to around 6,500 tracks across 336 episodes; tracklists that are not laid out one track per line are left alone.
  • Listener figures in the player bar The bar that follows you around the site now carries the 24-hour peak, the average and the busiest hour alongside the live count.
30 August 2026
  • Charts A new /charts/ page: the most played artists, tracks and record labels on Dogglounge — all time, over the last 30 days, and for every year back to 2010. Counted from the station's own airplay log rather than a poll.
  • Fifteen years of airplay recovered Over a million plays going back to June 2010, rebuilt from old station database backups and now kept up to date automatically. Roughly eleven months of 2022–23 were lost before the recovery and could not be retrieved.
  • Play counts on artist pages Artist pages now show how often the station has played someone, when they first aired and their busiest year — where the artist has been in rotation.
  • Artist pages from tracklists Every artist appearing in three or more Dogglounge tracklists now has a page listing the sets they turn up in, with a short biography and photo from Discogs.
  • Live show alerts Listeners can opt in to an email or a browser notification when a DJ goes live. Strictly opt-in, with one-click unsubscribe.
  • The player follows you around the site Music no longer stops when you move between pages. Refreshing still stops it — no browser allows audio to restart without a click.
  • Scheduled tasks repaired The site's background jobs had stopped running, which meant live alerts could not have been sent at all.
  • About page Live station figures, the DJ roster, how to listen, and screenshots of the site through the years from the Internet Archive.
29 August 2026
  • About this artist The now-playing panel and artist pages now carry a short biography, a photo and a link to the artist on Discogs.
  • Podcast artwork per episode Every episode now carries its own cover art in the podcast feed, sized to Apple's requirements, so episodes no longer fall back to the station logo.
  • Subscribe links The podcasts page now links straight to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and the rest.
  • Install as an app A prompt to install Dogglounge to a phone's home screen, shown only where the browser supports it.
  • Site footer and podcast search listings A proper footer across the site, and structured data so podcast episodes appear correctly in search results.
28 August 2026
  • DJ directory A browsable roster of the station's DJs, editable from the admin.
  • Episode player with comments Episodes play in place with a waveform, and listeners can leave a comment pinned to a moment in the mix.
  • Listener map A live map of where people are tuned in from.
  • Podcast download stats Episode download figures brought into the site.
27 August 2026
  • Recently played A compact recently-played list, replacing an embed that pulled in three external scripts and a page of markup on every song change.
  • DJ episode uploads DJs can upload a mix and its details themselves, delivered straight to the station.
  • SoundCloud import Existing SoundCloud sets can be imported as episodes.
  • Faster pages Around 180KB of styling that was being re-sent with every page is now a cached file, cutting a large chunk off each page load.
25 August 2026
  • Search visibility Structured data across the site so Google understands the station, its shows and its episodes.
23 August 2026
  • Installable web app Dogglounge can be added to a phone home screen and opened like an app, with offline handling for the pages it can cache.
