VOODOO LOPEZ: SUNSET @ BELIZE CAFE
August 22nd, 2018, at the Albufeira Marina. 6:00 PM, and I begin a four-hour set until 10:00 at night. An infernal heat under the blue tents, the color of Yemayá, on a tremendously blue day, but headphones didn’t properly works until the 5th or 6th track, and sun was so intense and computer was too hot, but there I was, so suddenly I’d noticed that was a perfect summer day, surrounded by boats and the calm of the evening, I was able to give back to the Algarve all the music it taught me and that I have loved. I started with a track I used to open my sessions with at Café del Mar in Seville, in a journey that goes from Yoruba roots to Soulful and House,
From those distant, echoing timbales,the finest Deep House to the uplifting Soulful, and finally the eternal violins and the piano with Frankie Knuckles everything coming from my soul was a way to thank a land and friends that I always carry in my heart. Watching the best DJs from both inside and outside Portugal, they showed me a path in music through the heart.
And all around me, everything in the evening seemed to merge with the summer
