Unknown Tone — UT to the regulars — joined Dogglounge from the UK in August 2010 and had his first Podmix up within a fortnight. “Hi people, this is my 1st PODMIX for Dogglounge Radio,” he wrote underneath it, “hope you enjoy it. Many more to follow.” He was good for it: the Podmixes ran on to number ten over the next thirteen months, the last of them landing in September 2011.

For a stretch of that run he held down the Friday resident slot, the show leading into Odogg’s TGIF.

The mixes were long ones. Two and a half hours was ordinary for UT, and the set he posted on New Year’s Day 2011 ran long enough that Voodoo Lopez turned it into the soundtrack for an entire birthday party — “we were dancing on the living,” he reported the next morning, by way of explaining his absence from the chat.

The sound sat between deep and soulful, vocal-led more often than not; the ID people asked after most was Bucie’s “Get Over It.” Tracklists were the one thing he never quite got around to posting, which never stopped anyone asking, mix after mix, for years.

He was one of the warmer presences on the station in those years — quick to thank the people listening, and quicker still to credit Odogg whenever the uploads misbehaved. “Just like to say very big thanks to the people who lock on and listen,” he wrote after his fifth. “KEEP IT LOCKED KEEP IT DOGGLOUNGE.”
